First established by secondary school teachers, Burnley Basketball have been in existence since the 1950s. The club was established primarily as a recreation focused club throughout its history providing opportunities for all in the Burnley and East Lancashire area. Burnley has competed both locally in the Lancashire league since the sixties and the Manchester League since the late seventies. The last ten years has seen Burnley develop as a club and is now a recognised England Basketball three star club.
Central to this development has been the provision of basketball opportunities for young people in basketball. The clubs youth teams now include under 12, 14, 16 and 18 teams that compete in both local and national competitions. Many of these players have represented Lancashire and have progressed through to the Manchester League Senior Team. This team has had recent success being a long established member of the Premier Division while winning the MABL Cup in 2008.
The club is based at Shuttleworth College, Padiham, Burnley and in this venue provides both recreational and performance basketball opportunities. Well supported by local sponsors, educational establishments parents and basketball players Burnley Basketball is a friendly club which a level of basketball suit everyone.
